We've upped our purchasing from the San Vicente mill this season, and Jose Claudio's coffee is brand new to the Kuma lineup! In fact, this is his first year working with San Vicente mill, whereas previously he had only been selling to local mills at commodity pricing. He has 4.2 hectares of coffee plantings at a rich height of 1750 meters, ideal for high scoring coffee growing.

This story is not new throughout Central and South America. There are still so many farms producing top tier coffees that just have not yet been discovered by specialty traders, they don't know there is a better option than selling to commodity mills. I remember we were visiting La Joya farm in Narino Colombia and it was the same situation there, their first year connecting their incredible coffee to specialty exporters when they had previously only known to sell to commodity mills. We were at the top of the mountain at this farm and looking out you could see dozens of other high elevation coffee farms dotting the mountainsides, and I wondered "these farms couldn't be more ideally located for high quality coffee, but are all these farms just selling commodity because they don't know there's another option?" Long story short, we are very happy indeed to get ahold of Jose Claudio's excellent coffee, hopefully for many more years to come.

Sweet and structured, this coffee scored amongst the top of the table this season. Zippy citrus acidity, anchored in a rich milk chocolate body and an almond dessert sweetness. We are drinking this all day at the roastery
