Ecuador Arnaud Causse *LIMITED RELEASE*
Much has been made of coffees from the region Pichincha, and perhaps none more than the coffees of Arnaud Causse at his farm La Tolas
This lot is a blend of varieties, picked ripe, fermented for 24 hours and dried on patios for 18 days. The result is structured elegance. This is a coffee that tastes like an orange creamcicle, with a depth that reminded us of rum raisin ice cream with vanilla aromatics.
This lot was sourced by Red Fox Coffee Merchants, who have been doing seminal work in Ecuador (and beyond), as has Arnaud Causse. To hear them tell it, Arnaud is a farming savant, experimenting not only with a wide spread of varietals, but with making his own herbal insecticides and keeping bees for pollination and coffee blossom honey.
Top tier Ecuadorian coffees are few and far between. And they are expensive, due in part to a limited supply and a high demand, but also because of the cost of labor. Ecuador is one of the few countries we purchase from that has a high standard for farm workers. Paid time off, contributions to health care and social security are required by law for all workers. While these are things we take for granted in the States, it is a rarity in coffee producing countries. More financial security, better working conditions and healthcare for farm workers, isn't this something we want to see more of in the world? Luckily, we think what we taste in the cup makes the decision easy. Please enjoy this gem of Pichincha!
